SWAY 103 - 4 BURLEY 96
|
Sway maintained their unbeaten start to the season with an exciting victory over Burley. Batting first Adam Clark and Alex Hall got away to a positive start putting on 44 runs before Clark was run out for 20, Hall retired shortly after with 26 to his name and the Burley bowlers got a grip on the scoring rate. Terry Steadman and Jack Walton managed to add some further runs amidst a flurry of run outs and the Sway innings closed on 103 - 4.
Burley's reply was emphatic and both openers Wayne Tucker and Callum Maher retired with 25 and 27 respectively, and with Sway on the ropes it was the introduction of Steadman ( 3 0 17 0 ) who slowed things down and gave Sway a glimmer of hope. The last ball of Steadman's spell saw the first wicket to fall with N.Mount run out for 0 and the score at 84 - 1 with 3 overs to go.Ross Clark 1 - 20 picked up a wicket in the 10th over and Joe Rodway bowled a superb penultimate over conceeding just 3 runs (a wide and a leg bye) and bowling A.Moorman for 11 with 2 more batsmen including the returning Maher being run out. This left just W. Tucker at the crease with 1 over left and 8 runs needed, the serenely lanquid Ross Clark was entrusted with the responsibility of the final over and his first ball was smacked straight down the wicket Clark got a hand to the ball and deflected it on to the stumps running out the backing up C.Maher and giving Sway victory by 7 runs. |
